Management Team

Desmond Mascarenhas, Chief Executive Officer
Mascarenhas has over twenty-five years of technical, IP and business experience in the biomedical sector. He has managed development projects in the biopharmaceutical, agricultural and specialty chemical areas. Prior to founding Bioexpertise, Inc., Ontherix, Inc. and Protigen, Inc. he held Research and Intellectual Property portfolios at Celtrix Pharmaceuticals, Inc. His original research work has been published in leading professional journals, and he has been awarded over thirty patents. He has taught biotechnology and drug development courses through the U.C. Berkeley Extension program since 1990. Mascarenhas earned a doctorate in Biochemistry while a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, and was a post-doctoral research affiliate at Stanford University.

Sally Vander Veer, Senior Vice-President of Operations
Vander Veer has 20 years of experience in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry. She holds a degree in Chemistry and Business. Vander Veer worked for 14 years in the pharmaceutical sector and has held positions in Medical and Scientific Affairs, sales, training, analytical research and development, product development, quality control and regulatory affairs. Recently, she has coordinated the development of a number of key initiatives related to content development, web-based product launch, member recruitment, survey design, metrics, thought leader development, and Return on Educational Investment (ROEI).

Bryan Brown, Chief Financial Officer
Brown owns a wide spectrum of financial experience, including helping an investment banking firm build a new investment management service, creating the business plan for a start-up company in virtual reality-based entertainment, and helping a major Bay Area based educational institution increase the profit potential of certain business units. Prior to this, as Chief Financial Officer, he was responsible for corporate financial, accounting, taxation, risk, and legal/regulatory compliance matters, plus systems and technology utilization, plant and equipment, personnel, and other administrative functions for an inter-related group of companies in the financial services sector. Mr. Brown previously directed a national distribution center, with technology, operations, budget, fulfillment, manufacturing, and service level responsibilities.
